WHAT TO EXPECT - STEP BY STEP GUIDE

DENTAL SLEEP CENTER OF KANSAS CITY

Obstructive sleep apnea is a serious disorder and we want to make the treatment process as easy as possible. We have laid out a 5-step process to get you the treatment that you need.

  1. Consultation: We love to meet new patients (at no charge) and discuss the benefits of healthy sleep. Our friendly dentist can perform a thorough examination to make sure a mandibular advancement device is the optimal treatment for you. We encourage our patients to visit a qualified sleep physician prior to initiating any OSA treatment however; If you have not previously been diagnosed with sleep apnea or do not have a local provider, please contact us and we can help expedite the process with many convenient options.
  2. Insurance benefit verification: We have designed a sleep questionnaire to help ease the confusion that can be involved with private medical insurance and/or Medicare. Please follow the link and our staff will contact your insurance provider to establish the specific requirements and fees associated with treatment. Most insurance providers will require a signed prescription (letter of medical necessity) from a sleep physician and a copy of a sleep study completed within the last 5 years.
  3. Impressions: We utilize state-of-the-art digital impressions to create a precise, virtual 3-D model of your teeth and jaw movements. We have multiple options of high-quality mouthpieces to choose from and will show you the benefits of each type. Typical lab turnaround time is 2-3 weeks.
  4. Enjoy a restful sleep: After verification of fit and comfort, we will coach you on how to adjust the mouthpiece to achieve optimal comfort and effectiveness. Re-evaluation will be scheduled 2 weeks after initiating treatment.
  5. Improvement check: We hope you love the way you feel and want to hear about it. We recommend and can provide a home sleep test around 1 month after initiating treatment to verify our OSA health concerns have improved. Patients are encouraged to schedule a follow up visit with their sleep physician 2-3 months after initiating treatment.
